The MilkBar was developed and built by artists working at the intersection of physical performance, video/film, and music.

We think it is an ideal and affordable space for artist friendly film/video production and technical residencies/intensives to create cutting edge media and performance works.

We offer a special all day rate for production work, including the ability to drop-off and stage equipment, make-up and services the night before.

Specifications:

Our main stage is an accessible 25′ deep x 32′ wide sprung dance floor with Rosco black marley, an overhead lighting grid, a 26′ white wall upstage, sound system and upright spinet piano. Adjoining the main stage is our audience / lounge space with sofa style seating for ~ 15 and folding chairs for up to 40, a lunch / library area, high-speed internet and accessible bathroom.

Production rentals can include usage of our mezzanine office / green room, outdoor garden, workshop and space for props assembly, and roll-up door.

Our lighting rep plot has Waveform Lighting flicker free tunable CRI LED washes along with LitePanels and Nanlite Forza II tunable instruments. Our lighting control is a Luminair based artnet system with an additional dedicated artnet > DMX universe for use with external fixtures or control, as well as optional DMXking LED pixel control nodes. We have a limited number of DMX dimmers for halogen/incandescent specials/practical fixtures, and depending on patching up to (10) 20a circuits available.

Additional production equipment available includes pre-hung seamless backdrops in Pure White, Black and Warm Grey, along with our in-house inventory of production and grip equipment including C-Stands, Lighting Instruments, LED color strip lighting, Projectors and Video Control, Screens, and cameras.

All changes to the standard plot or programming require restoration to our standard plot at the end of your rental. Full specs and details on request.

Our audio system is based on a 64 channel Dante network, with 3 dedicated Dante network inputs, an 8 channel Mackie mixer for live sound input / capture, and 8 channel Genelec based speaker system. For rehearsal usage the system is typically used as a stereo PA mode over bluetooth.

Network: We have a gigabit fiber internet connection, and internal cabled network.

Technician requirements: Any use of the technical equipment that involve changes to our standard rep plate requires that a MilkBar approved technician familiar with our space be part of your technical team. We are happy to supply recommendations, and if you are production manager, technician or designer and would like to be on our approved list – please get in touch.

Insurance: All production rentals require proof of insurance.

We have had dozens of groups create and rehearse works in our space from solo fringe shows to main stage YBCA and Zellerbach productions.
